2024 T20 World Cup: India and Pakistan clubbed in same group, New York set to host massive game

Group draws for the 2024 T20 World Cup has been revealed with India and Pakistan clubbed in the same group. New York is set to host the massive game between the two rivals.

New York will be bustling come the ninth of June 2024 as India and Pakistan are set to lock horns during the 2024 T20 World Cup. As per reports Ireland, USA, and Canada are the other teams in the group with India and Pakistan.

West Indies and the United States of America will co-host the event as England looks to defend their title. The defending champions are clubbed in the same group as arch-rivals Australia with Namibia, Scotland, and Oman.

Two-time winners and hosts West Indies are drawn with New Zealand and Afghanistan. Uganda and Papua New Guinea will make their debut in the tournament for the first time in the group stages.

Meanwhile, South Africa will meet their new nemesis Netherlands yet again along with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal. The Dutch have beaten the Proteas during the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Packed schedule for the Indian Cricket Team

The month of June is set to be huge for Team India as the 2024 T20 World Cup group draws have been made. The men in blue are in the same group as Pakistan which sets up yet another tantalizing affair between the two rivals. USA, Canada, and Ireland are the other three teams in the same group. 

India will begin their campaign on the fifth of June versus Ireland followed by the game versus Pakistan on the ninth. Co-hosts USA will then play India on the twelfth of June with Canada rounding off the group phase with a game on the fifteenth. New York will host the first three games for Team India as Florida hosts the final game against Canada.

The top two teams from each group will make it to the next stage as two groups of four teams will drawn. Barbados will play host to the final on June 30 to draw curtains on the tournament which will run for over three weeks. Team India will move to the Caribbean to play their Super Eight matches after the initial phase. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have expressed their desire to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup. As per reports, Ajit Agarkar could discuss this with the two players as well as Coach Rahul Dravid. Afghanistan is set to play India in a three-game T20I series which begins on the Eleventh of January. 

Indian Cricket Board source said to PTI “Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya aren’t fit. The Afghanistan series won't tell you anything. Everything will be decided based on the first month of the IPL”. It is believed that a few forgotten stars could also be in contention if they perform well during the IPL.
