Aakash Chopra reveals shocking name who could replace Rohit Sharma as Test captain

Rohit Sharma has led the Indian side to two finals in his one-year captaincy stint. He first lost in the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the ODI World Cup 2023 final against the same opposition Australia. Under his captaincy, India went on to the final of the major tournament in 2014, he made a record of winning 10 matches in a row as an Indian captain in the World Cup 2023. The skipper was the second-highest run scorer in the tournament as well and played fearless cricket at the top of the order. 

The batter is currently 36 years old and might continue as the captain for a maximum of three years. India is looking for a possible replacement for him in Test match cricket. Former opener Aakash Chopra has revealed a shocking name that can the opener in the red-ball format as a skipper. He believes Rishabh Pant might be stepping in as a captain in the longest format of the game. 

Chopra also believes Shubman Gill is a possible replacement for Pant, and while little is known about his captaincy abilities, the opener will lead Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for the first time, following the departure of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians. 

So I will look towards one of these two once Rohit says he is done with Test cricket: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, "I am talking about extremely long-term, it could be Shubman Gill. I am not talking about now, I am talking about the distant future. It could be Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant as a Test cricketer is 24-carat gold. So he could also be the one. He is a game-changer. So I will look towards one of these two once Rohit says he is done with Test cricket and that you can appoint someone else as the skipper."

Pant has experience of captaining the side as an explosive wicket-keeper batter who captains the IPL side Delhi Capitals (DC). But he has been out of action after he suffered a horrifying accident while travelling back home.
