Abhishek Sharma called in police station after being linked with actress Tania Singh

Abhishek Sharma, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been summoned by Surat Police, to give a statement in connection with the suicide of model Tania Singh in the Vesu district of Surat on Monday. Police have also obtained statements from five other people, including friends and family, who called her recently.



The suicide of the 28-year-old model, who was originally from Rajasthan and lived at Happy Elegance in the Vesu district, has sparked outrage in the city. Tania has been studying fashion design and modelling for the past 18 months.  Meanwhile, while the Surat police investigated the model's phone records, SRH all-rounder Abhishek Sharma's name came up, and the authorities called the cricketer to give a statement.

The 23-year-old apparently knew Tania for a long period. However, the two had been out of touch for several months. Regardless, Abhishek is not the primary suspect and has been summoned to Surat to give his usual statement on the matter. The recent incident would not effect well for the Southpaw to resume his game as he prepares for the upcoming IPL season.

Is Abhishek Sharma's career over?  

The left-handed batter has been a rising star for his all-around abilities in the orange jersey. He opens for SRH and contributes key overs with the ball. Furthermore, the Indian Cricket Board has a zero-tolerance stance against such players engaging in illegal activity.

As a result, if the enquiry continues and Sharma is further implicated, his participation in the IPL could be at risk. There is a lot at risk for the aspiring cricketer who wants to make an impact in the IPL and eventually make it to the national squad. However, being identified with such controversies will only harm the all-rounder. It remains to be seen whether Abhishek's name is cleared in the suicide case. 

The batter was last seen in Ranji Trophy where he achieved a new record as he became the fourth Indian player to hit five sixes in an over in first-class cricket, in the game against Tamil Nadu.
