India has already announced their squad for their all-format tour to South Africa. The Men in Blue are currently playing Australia in a 5-match T20I series. They are playing their second-string squad in the bilateral series as most of the senior players who were part of the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023 have been given rest. But in the white-ball series against the Proteas Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are missing as they have asked the Indian Cricket Board to be given a break and will join the side for the two-match test series.

Yuzvendra Chahal who has been in and out of the side has been added to the ODI squad after 11 months. The leg-spinner was one of the mainstream bowlers in white-ball cricket till 2019 and since then the Board has been experimenting with other players as well. Chahal was left out of India's selections for the Asia Cup and the World Cup as well. He was also overlooked for the Australia T20Is. After nearly a year, Chahal will finally get a chance at the ODIs.

Former World Cup winner Harbhajan Singh has lashed out at the Cricket Board for not giving enough chances to the leg-spinner despite his good performances in domestic and county cricket. Bhajji believes it is a consolation medal for someone he considers to be the country's top white-ball spinner.

We won't take in the format where you do well: Harbhajan Singh

The off-spinner said on his YouTube channel, "There is no Yuzvendra Chahal in T20 format. You kept him in ODIs but not T20Is. They just gave him a lollypop to suck on. We won't take in the format where you do well but will take for other formats. It's beyond my understanding."

He further mentioned the omission of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. He said, "I think the road is tough for a comeback. They have served Indian cricket, and are renowned cricketers. The board should have had a chat with them. They should have been informed why they are not picked and what is a possible path for them in their careers."
