Exciting times are in store for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team and its fans ahead of IPL 2024. The 2016 winners have assembled a great squad for the upcoming season. Pat Cummins the Australian skipper is one of the huge names who is part of the men in orange.
This may turn out to be bad news for Aiden Markram the current SRH skipper. The 29-year-old saw his team finish 10th in the table during the IPL 2023 season. This according to Cricbuzz may prompt the SRH management to seek for a new captain. In such a scenario, Pat Cummins is the name that is being considered for captaincy.
Dale Steyn is set to miss the entire season of IPL 2024 with the Sunrisers side. The 40-year-old has asked for a break this season and promised to make his come back for the 2025 season. The former pace legend, who is the bowling coach for the Men in Orange has played a key role in Umran Malik’s ascent to the top.
Is Pat Cummins set to become the new SRH captain?
After finishing the IPL 2023 table, SRH is likely to appoint Pat Cummins as the new skipper. Cricbuzz on Saturday reported that the move is in its early stages and could see Aiden Markram being asked.
The 29-year-old South African will hope to keep his job as the leader of the side. Aiden Markram is also the captain of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape side which has won the SA20 league twice in successive years.
If Pat Cummins does become the new Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper, he will look to add yet another title to his cabinet. In 2023, Pat Cummins twice beat India in the final to first win the WTC title. This was followed by the ODI World Cup 2023 triumph which was the sixth title for Australia.
Travis Head who scored a century in the final against India is also part of the SRH unit this year. 30-year-old Pat Cummins became the first ever player to be picked for INR 20 crores during the IPL 2024 auctions in December. It is an amazing time to be an SRH fan and Pat Cummins could spread more cheers this year.
