Amazon buys media rights

Last month, Australia won their sixth ODI World Cup title in India beating the hosts in the final. Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video, a famous streaming platform for movies and web series, obtained the rights to broadcast all major tournaments across Australia for the next four years, beginning with the Men's T20 World Cup in the Caribbean Islands and the United States in 2024. Men's and Women's Cricket World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, U19s, and the World Test Championship Final are all part of the agreement.

The agreement also covers all the Qualifier and U19 World Cup events. As a result of the new partnership, there will be no free-to-air coverage of global events inside Australia. This will be the first time that Amazon Prime Video has taken the rights to cricket in Australia, and the second time that it has taken into the sport globally after streaming New Zealand Cricket matches in India.

As Prime has now come into the competition with Fox Sports, and Seven Network, who have been facing financial difficulties and legal disputes over cricket broadcast rights. The fans will need a subscription to watch these global games. Hushidar Kharas, Amazon Prime's head of Australia and New Zealand, said the partnership marks an important aspect of the streaming service and would provide cricket fans in Australia with unmatched access.

The 2023 Ashes were the most closely contested and memorable of recent times: Hushidar Kharas

Kharas said, "As a cricket fan, I couldn't wait to see what happened when the unstoppable force of 'BazBall' batting came up against the best test bowling lineup in the world. The 2023 Ashes were the most closely contested and memorable of recent times, and I am delighted to be able to relive them along with our customers in Australia and around the world."

"The Cricket World Cup is one of the most viewed sporting events in the world; the recently concluded edition was watched by hundreds of millions of people! Over the next four years, Prime members in Australia will be able to watch their favourite cricket teams and players compete for the game’s biggest prize, on demand, on the device of their choice—exclusively on Prime Video."
