In a shocking move, the Pakistan Cricket Board has terminated the central contract of speedster Haris Rauf for being unavailable to play for Pakistan. It all happened last year when Pakistan announced their test team for the tour of Australia and during the announcement selector Wahab Riaz disclosed that Haris Rauf had made himself unavailable for the tour despite being declared fit by the Pakistan team’s medical team.

The Pakistan Cricket Board feels that it is a violation of the terms of the central contract and therefore his contract with the Pakistan cricket team has been terminated retrospectively from December 1, 2023, and he will not be granted NOCs to participate in foreign leagues up to June 30, 2024.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s official statement

Pakistan Cricket Board stated, “After a thorough hearing process conducted by a PCB committee and taking into consideration the views of all stakeholders involved in the matter, Haris’ central contract has been terminated from December 1, 2023, and no NOC (No objection certificate) to play any foreign league will be granted up to June 30, 2024.”

The statement further added, “The PCB management provided a chance for a personal hearing to Haris in compliance with the principles of natural justice on 30 January 2024 and his response was found unsatisfactory.”

“The PCB states that playing for Pakistan is the ultimate honour and privilege for any sportsperson. Refusal to be part of Pakistan's Test squad in the absence of any medical report or justifiable reason is a material violation of the central contract.”

Haris Rauf was in Category B in Pakistan’s annual contract list where he used to get a monthly retainer of 4 million rupees plus enhanced match fees, bonuses, and a share in the PCB’s revenue from the Apex Governing Council.  PCB was miffed by Rauf’s attitude towards test cricket as he took part in Australia’s Big Bash League after pulling out of the Pakistan test series with Australia which was happening side by side with the BBL.
