Sachin Dhas has been the star for India's win against South Africa in the semi-final of the U-19 World Cup 2024. The young batter played a underpressure knock of 96 runs. Though the batter did not get the man of the match award, but his innings when the team was struggling will be remebered. After the game explained how his father came up with the name 'Sachin'. The boy stated that his father was a huge fan of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and decided that his son's name would likewise be Sachin.
Dhas walked out to bat in a dangerous situation at 32-4, chasing 245, but hit a spectacular 96 off 95 to propel his nation to the Men in Blue's fifth consecutive U19 World Cup final. He told captain Uday Saharan after India's stunning victory. Captain Saharan also contributed significantly to the triumph, scoring 81 off 124.
He spoke of batting alongside Dhas. Saharan and Dhas added 171 runs, the highest fifth-wicket stand in U19 World Cup history. Despite the record partnership between Saharan and Dhas, the game became very tight in the conclusion, with India losing wickets in a row. They needed 17 off 14 with three wickets left. However, bowler Raj Limbani came out and smacked a first-ball six over midwicket releasing the pressure.
So even before I was born, he had made up his mind: Sachin Dhas
Sachin Dhas said, "My father used to play cricket and is a huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar. So even before I was born, he had made up his mind that he would name his son 'Sachin' (smiles)." Saharan said, "It feels really good playing alongside Sachin. He has a lot of positive intent, and it helps me a lot."He always looks to keep finding boundaries alongside the rotation of strike. We just kept talking about taking the game deep and batting till the very end."
The captain further added, "Things had got a bit tensed in the middle as a bowler (Raj Limbani) had walked out to bat."I thought I would have to score all the remaining runs. But when Raj hit that six, I was so relieved. I believed it had become so easy that Raj himself would score the remaining runs (laughs)."
