Indian team has already announced their squad for the tour of South Africa. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been absent from the white-ball series as both the senior players asked for rest and only wanted to play the two test matches. The Men in Blue have announced KL Rahul as the captain of the ODI team and Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side in the shortest format of the game.
There have been two players who have not been selected in the squad. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, have not been named in the test squad. Both the batters were part of the World Test Championship (WTC) which India lost against Australia. The squad included youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal instead with most of the other major players retaining their spots.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has dropped his opinion about the selection panel's choice, and he believes it is time to give young talent a chance. He stated that sports do not last forever, and while Rahane and Pujara have done well for the national team, it is now time for fresh players to prove their character in international cricket.
At some point in time you have to play new talents: Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly said, "At some point, you have to play new talents. There is enormous talent in India and the team has to progress. Pujara and Rahane had enormous success for India, sport doesn't remain with you forever. You cannot be there forever, it will happen to everyone. I must thank them for what they have done for Indian cricket and selectors want fresh faces, so that's how it is."
As per the reports of the PTI, "The two slots that Rahane and Pujara had now belong to KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Also, Gill will bat in the middle order and Yashashvi will get a long rope."
