The 37-year-old opener also said with a Champions trophy in a year he might play for the national team once again if they need him. There is no backup opener in the side for the longest format of the game as the veteran retires the Board needs to think of an opener who can be the one to replace him in the side.

Marcus Harris, who has last played a test in 2022 is the most potential contender to replace the batter in the test side. He has expressed confidence and gratitude for being considered for the opening role. Despite not being for the side for almost a year the opener is positive about his comeback to the side and play for the country and open alongside Usman Khawaja, whose form has been brilliant in recent times in the longest format of the game.

They have looked at me as being the next opener in line: Marcus Harris

Harris said, "It does give me the confidence they have looked at me as being the next opener in line. I’d like to think I haven’t done much wrong for that to change. I feel like my performances over a long period have stayed consistently at a good level. I feel like I’ve done what I’ve needed to do."

"You don’t lose belief because you weren’t dropped based on form. The perfect case in point is probably Uzzie. You hear how in 2019 he thought he was done, and probably never play again. His last two years have been the best cricket he’s played."
