India won the five-match T20I series against Australia by 4-1. They won the last match of the series, by six runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The teams were playing their second-string squad as the matches were scheduled only four days after the ODI World Cup 2023 final. The majority of the senior players were given rest. Australia won the toss and invited India to bat first, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side could only score 160/8 in their 20 overs with the team's vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer playing a valuable knock of 53 off 37. The Aussies could only score 154/8, Ben McDermott scored 54 off 36 balls.
After this series, Men in Blue will be traveling on an all-format tour to South Africa. They have already announced the sides. There will be three different captains leading in the different formats. The tour will begin with three T20Is, the first of which will be played at Kingsmead, Durban on December 10, starting at 9:30 PM IST. The next two will be played in St George's Park, Gqeberha on December 12, and the final will be at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on December 14.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been given rest for the white-ball series. Both the senior players asked for a break from the white-ball format. They will be returning to the side for the two test matches. Their participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 is also in doubt.
India's upcoming matches
They will play three ODIs against the Proteas, following their T20I games. The matches will be from December 17 to December 21. The first match will be played in Johannesburg, the second in Gqeberha, and the third in Paarl. Next, they will be playing the two tests, The first red ball game will be the Boxing Day Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion and the second one is scheduled in Newlands in Cape Town.
Then they will be coming back to India to face Afghanistan in the three-match T20I series ahead of facing England in a 5-match test series at home.
