Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has already made his mark in the first match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal. He scored a brilliant 151 runs innings leading Pakistan to set a mammoth total of 342 runs. The Asian Giants beat Nepal by 238 runs. He also became the fastest batter to complete 19 ODI hundreds in the history of the format.

While speaking of his counterpart Virat Kohli, the Pakistan skipper said that calling him "top" batter across formats in 2022 was a "very proud" moment that increased Babar's confidence. Back in 2022, Kohli praised Babar for not changing his attitude and respect toward him despite reaching new levels in the sport.

Babar told Star Sports in a video, a clip of which was released on Thursday. He stated, "It feels very good when someone passes comments like that about you." "Virat Kohli's comments about me, that was a very proud moment for me and it felt very good. Some things and some praises give you confidence."

He also remembered their meeting in 2019 and said, "I went to meet him during the 2019 World Cup." "He was at his peak then and is there now as well. I wanted to take (learn) something from him. I got to learn a lot. I asked him some questions which I needed answers to and he explained everything very nicely."

Meanwhile, Babar is only six runs away from becoming the fastest captain to score 2,000 ODI runs. The former India skipper took 36 innings to score 2,000 ODI runs as Team India captain. Overall, Babar has amassed 5353 runs in 102 ODI matches at an average of 59.48, with 19 hundreds.

Babar said after the end of the first match, "This game was good preparation for the India game because it gave us confidence. We want to give 100 percent every match, hope to do that there as well." The two superstars will go head-to-head in the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup on September 2.
