England cruised into the quarterfinal with a 3-0 win over Senegal contrary to most people's expectations. Let's see how the game panned out:
England vs Senegal (3-0)
Senegal came into the match with a dominating win over Ecuador in the group stage. England on the other hand had thumped Wales in their own group match. A game between AFCON winners and the Euro finalists was supposed to be a fiery affair but it wasn't.
Senegal looked threatening at the start but soon England found a way from an unexpected goal. Henderson latched onto a Jude Bellingham pass to head England in front in the 38th minute. Harry Kane who has remained goalless so far went on to score his first goal in the tournament at the dying embers of the first half.
The second half looked much like a chore for England as they found now no answers from Senegal. The gulf in class between the two teams was most apparent in the second half as Senegal huffed and puffed but could not get past England's defence.
In the 57th minute, Bukayo Saka chipped in a great goal into the Senegal goalpost to end the match right there. In the last half an hour, England just moved the ball around and gave a statement to the other teams in the Quarterfinals.
They will now face France at the Quarterfinals and the winner of that match would certainly be favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2022. Argentina, Netherlands, and France are the other three teams who have qualified for the Quarterfinals.
