India lost 0-2 against Australia in the AFC Asian Cup 2024. Against the world number 25 ranked side, India gave a tough fight but could not make a huge impact on the result. India did not lose by a huge margin, which means that they can still have a go at other sides in their group in the upcoming matches that might decide their fate in the tournament.

India will be up against the sides like Syria and Uzbekistan in the upcoming games. Against Australia, India did well in the first half. The defence was very good in the first half and not many lapses were found in India's perforamnce in the play. Australia did have a dominant possesion in the middle. But India managed to hold them for some time.

The defensive unit led by Sandesh Jingan was good. Gurpreet was good for the most parts. Unfortunately, he could not get the clean sheet. In their first match in the Asia Cup, India would have liked a slightly easier opponent. But Australia returned to their best soon after the first half. The way they went about the game changed totally after the break.

Australia humble India in the second half

Australia changed their style soon after the first half. As a result, Irvine scored them the first goal of the match in the 50th minute. India tried hard to make inroads into the game. Sunil Chhetri and co gave their best performance against a strong side like Australia. There were some chances created in the middle. However, none of them were converted to goals. 

Australia further got a good hold in the game. In the 73rd minute of the game, Bos scored the goal and almost sealed the game for Australia. India tried to be in the game, but they were unfortunately against a better side altogether. In the end, Australia managed to hold on to their lead to beat India by a margin of 2-0. The fans expressed their happiness for the fight provided by India.
