The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to kick off in October. The first match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, where the two finalists from the last edition, England and New Zealand will lock horns with each other.

India will play their opening match of the mega event against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. The Men in Blue will lock horns with arch-rivals, Pakistan at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad on October 14.

Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar, while talking to India Today, opined that former India skipper Virat Kohli will be motivated to win another ODI World Cup. The 34-year-old has the opportunity to become the only Indian cricketer to lift the ODI World Cup twice.

I am talking about 50-over World Cup winning: Sunil Gavaskar

"Added motivation, yes. Kohli of course has been a part of the winning team in 2011 and exactly wants to be a part of another winning team. I don’t think of an Indian player who has been a part of two World Cup-winning teams," Gavaskarkar was quoted as saying on India Today.

“I am talking about 50-over World Cup winning. So, that is a great motivation for him. Not that he needs any motivation when he pulls on the India cap he (Virat Kohli), Rohit, and all of them go out and try their best,”  the former right-hand batter added.

The Indian Cricket Board chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, along with skipper Rohit Sharma, announced the squad for the upcoming mega event in the press conference which took place in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, September 5. The 15-member squad is the same as the squad that was selected for Asia Cup 2023. Only two members have been excluded from the team, Tilak Varma, and a seamer from Karnataka, Prasidh Krishna.

India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (Vice-captain), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.
