Former India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik last played for the national side during the T20 World Cup 2022. After the IPL 2022, he made his comeback in the Indian team after the 2019 ODI World Cup. Karthik was specifically given the role of finisher, the same as he did for RCB in the last IPL. However, the move fell flat during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Between 2021 to making his comeback last year, the Tamil Nadu player was commentating on various TV networks. After the 20-over World Cup, the former Mumbai Indians player returned to the same job and has been doing that ever since. Meanwhile, in a Twitter post, it asked the fans about the wicketkeeper batter that could play in the upcoming ODI World Cup. The options were - KL Rahul (subjected to fitness, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson).

A fan mentioned Karthik in the reply section. The two-time World Event winner wrote, “You'll see me in the World Cup, for sure, is what I can say.” The likes of Rahul are most likely to miss out as he sustained a hip fracture and his recovery is unknown. Also, the team wouldn't want to risk playing with a player with no game time in the showpiece event.

On the other hand, Kishan and Samson will be competing for the spot although both might get selected. After all, Rishabh Pant, who met with an accident, is all but ruled out of the tournament.
