Gujarat Titans (GT) speedster Yash Dayal disappeared after he got hit for 5 sixes in a single over by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) young batter Rinku Singh. Dayal was given the responsibility to defend 29 runs in the final over against KKR but no one had imagined that Rinku will smash him for 5 consecutive sixes to snatch the victory from their hands.
Meanwhile, GT skipper Hardik Pandya, who wasn’t there with the team in the match against KKR, has now revealed that Dayal won’t be making a comeback soon and will take more time to recover. He even revealed that the speedster lost 7-8 KGs of his weight and also fell early after that match. Pandya mentioned that Dayal’s condition is not good right now.
“I can't confirm that (on his chances of playing again this season). He fell ill and lost 7-8 kilos after that match. There was a spread of viral infection during that period and also due to the pressure he had faced, his condition is presently not good enough to take the field. Someone's loss is someone's gain at the end of the day. It is going to take a long time before we see him on the field,” he said.
Brilliant performance by GT in IPL 2023 so far
Dayal didn't appear in a single match after that unforgettable final over, not even on the substitute list. Former CSK pacer Mohit Sharma replace him in the squad and is producing remarkable performances in almost all he is playing for the team. Mohit has played 4 matches in the season so far and has taken 6 wickets. He was even named Player of the Match 2 times in just 4 appearances.
However, the defending champions are performing really well in the current season as well. They are currently standing in the 2nd spot in the points table with 10 points in just 8 matches just behind Chennai Super Kings who have the same points but with a better run rate. The last match GT played was against Mumbai Indians where they clinched a convincing victory by 55 runs.
