Nearly a year has passed since the rising talent Khamzat Chimaev last competed inside the Octagon. When he did, it followed a contentious UFC 279 fight week that featured a significant weight loss that necessitated a major rescheduling of the main event. Since then, the future of the Swede born in Chechnya has been surrounded by a great deal of doubt.

Even though UFC President Dana White said a middleweight transfer would be required, there is still speculation of a return to 170 pounds, where he currently holds the #4 ranking. Meanwhile, UFC Welterweight star Belal Muhammad recently talked about Khamzat and said that he seeks attention on social media just like former UFC double champ Conor McGregor.

"I don't know, man. It's like, this new Twitter age is kind of annoying. Because, Khamzat's one of those guys, kind of like a McGregor, where he wants the attention. So, he'll throw out a random tweet here and there. But nothing ever comes of it, right?" Belal was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

"And it's like when they say that, I'm like, 'Bro, that fights not happening.' Because they'll talk about it, they'll both say something about it. Then, there won't be anything else. And you'll see, 'Oh, Khamzat's gonna fight this guy. Khamzat's gonna fight that guy.' So, I think he's just literally all talk; just to stay in the news, stay relevant," he said

Usman wants to fight, I'll make it his last fight: Khamzat Chimaev

Khamzat might be making his comeback against Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 in October and he is working hard for that matchup as he has to reduce his weight in order to get the matchup. Usman lost his last fight against Leon Edwards in a Welterweight title championship.

"UFC told us we're going to fight in Abu Dhabi, so that's what I'm waiting for... just waiting for the opponent and for the contract so we'll see what's going to happen. Usman wants to fight, I'll make it his last fight... I'm gonna fight this guy in Abu Dhabi and smash his face, finish him, and then they have to give me that title shot." Khamzat was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
