'He will be India's strength...' - Sourav Ganguly backs star India player to play pivotal role in ODI World Cup 2023

India will host the World Cup 2023 beginning on October 5. The Men in Blue will be put to the test in the 50-over international competition as they attempt to repeat what MS Dhoni and his side accomplished during India's 2011 World Cup hosting.

Former Indian cricket board President Sourav Ganguly has named India's main tandem for the World Cup and the currently taking place Asia Cup as the country prepares for the historic event. In addition to Virat Kohli, who Dada believes to be the ‘strength' of the Indian side, Ganguly has also selected India captain Rohit Sharma as one of the team's crucial players.

"He's (Virat Kohli) playing very well, there is no question about it. He will be India's strength, key player, along with Rohit Sharma. Rohit's form will be equally important. Last World Cup (2019) he got five hundred, that's unbelievable performance," Ganguly said in a talk with RevSportz.

As the 2023 edition of the World Cup can be the last World Cup for Rohit, according to Ganguly, the Indian skipper will be looking for the ideal send-off. The form of both batters will be a crucial factor if India were to win and end the drought of not winning any major tournament for 10 years now.

"And probably this is his first and last World Cup as captain, he might still do it in the T20 World Cup but for the ODI event, there is still four years and I don't think he'll be playing in another few years. Everyone will be important, and I hope they stand up and perform," the former India captain said.

The duo will also play a crucial role in Asia Cup 2023
