Not just Rohit Sharma’s impact with the bat, his performance as the captain of the Indian team too his under the scanner after India’s terrible performance against England in the semi-finals of the 20-20 World Cup. The fans on social media pointed out Rohit Sharma’s defensive approach against England in the powerplay while Ajay Jadeja, the former India captain blamed the 35-year-old for not spending enough time with the team and often missing out on tours.
Jadeja believes that as a captain of the team, Rohit should stick with the squad for an entire year to understand how each and every player performs under different conditions. The former cricketer also pointed out the fact that India’s designated Head Coach Rahul Dravid will not be travelling to New Zealand, despite India not playing good cricket in Australia.
Difficult with seven leaders in one team: Jadeja
“I would say one thing which might hurt Rohit Sharma. If you have to make a team as captain, you have to stick with the side for the entire year. How many series did Rohit Sharma play this year? I’m not saying this in hindsight, I’ve been saying this since before. Even in New Zealand, the coach isn’t travelling,” the 51-year-old said while talking to Cricbuzz after India’s 10-wicket loss against England.
In the past year, the Men in Blue had multiple players taking up the captaincy role in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Be it Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant or Hardik Pandya, as many as 7 skippers were in charge of the Indian team in the past 12 months. Thus, Jadeja questioned India’s intention in the future and also mentioned that it will be difficult for the team in case they go ahead with the same plan in the future series’.
“There should only be one leader in the team. If there are 7, it would be difficult,” the former cricketer said in the same show,
