India is set to be back in action in the upcoming home Test series of 2 matches against West Indies which will be followed by 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The Indian team will definitely like to add some new faces for the upcoming series. One of them could be young left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was also included in the stand-by players for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has also urged the management to include Jaiswal for the Test series as he was in phenomenal form during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The 21-year-old played 14 matches and scored 625 runs at a brilliant average of 48.08, which included a century as well.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal is definitely one of them. He has been a very prolific scorer across formats, whether you talk about the IPL, domestic cricket, or India A cricket. I think he needs to be a part of the squad," Jaffer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

I feel he should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed: Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer also talked about the WTC final where the Men in Blue had to suffer an embarrassing loss by 209 runs and continued their 10-year drought of major world trophies. He said that Jaiswal was part of the team but didn’t get a place as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were already playing as openers. He said that Jaiswal should be kept around the national team so that he can be groomed fastly.

"He was given an opportunity as well this time. He was a part of the team but Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were playing, so obviously he didn't get a chance. I feel he should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed, and as and when an opportunity comes, he should get a chance", Jaffer further added.
