Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the best bowlers of this generation. The pacer has been outstanding since his return from injury. He has been instrumental in India's success in both domestic and international cricket. Bumrah was an important player in the team that qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023 final. The bowler's precision with the line and length has been outstanding. The speedster has been rewarded for his efforts over the years, and he is now the No.1 Test bowler following his match-winning performance in the second Test against England.

The visitors were on the receiving end of the 30-year-old's spectacular spell in the second Test, but head coach Brendon McCullum expects his side to devise a strategy to counter the threat offered by the outstanding Indian paceman. Bumrah shattered England's batting line-up, noted for their ultra-aggressive Bazball approach, delivering statistics of 6/45.

When asked how England intends to cope with Bumrah in the remaining three Tests, he simply stated that his side does not believe in theories. The team's aggressive approach has backlashed in the second Test, but they will hope to get back on track and play their unusual brand of cricket despite the conditions.

We don't really do theories: Brendon McCullum

McCullum said, "We don't really do theories. It is about making sure the guys are totally clear and present, confident and have conviction in their method. They are a lot better than I ever was and they will work it out how best to go about it. There are contrasting ways of going about it...we will see where we get to. For now, we have to tip our cap to Jasprit and say that spell (in the first innings of the second Test) was as good as anything we have seen so far on this trip.

"It's all condition-dependent. When the ball is swinging like that he becomes even more of a threat. He is a fantastic bowler in all forms of the game. He is unique with his release points and with how much swing he can generate in the air. No doubt he is very good, but we have come up against very good bowlers all through the last 18 months or so and found ways to counter them and that is what we have got to do in this one."
