Dhruv Jurel plays down talks of comparisons with former India skipper and local Ranchi hero MS Dhoni after his match-defining knock during the India vs England 2024 Test on Sunday.

Young Dhruv Jurel had to wait for two Tests to make his international debut. The patchy form of KS Bharat meant that the 22-year-old Dhruv Jurel was given a maiden cap in Rajkot. In his very first innings, the right-handed batter scored a gritty half-century. 

On Sunday former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar made a huge comment. The 74-year-old said that the youngster could soon become MS Dhoni 2.0. For the unversed Dhruv Jurel had scored a gritty 90 to help India reach 307 runs. 

At the end of the 2nd day, India were 219/7 still trailing England by 134 runs. With just the tail for company, the youngster battled hard and helped India reduce the lead to 46 runs. Tom Hartley bowled an amazing ball to leave the youngster to fall short of his ton by 10 runs. 

Dhruv Jurel replies to Sunil Gavaskar

The Cricketing world was in full praise for youngster Dhruv Jurel after his knock against England in Rajkot. The 22-year-old scored 90 runs and this earned him huge praise from Sunil Gavaskar on air. 

During the commentary, the former India legendary batter said “His batting and wicket-keeping are of top-class. Look at his game awareness. I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. Jurel is a street-smart cricketer like MS Dhoni”

Once this message was relayed to the youngster he played it down respectfully. Speaking to Jio Cinema at the end of the day, Jurel said “It is good that a legend like Sunil Gavaskar is praising you. The mood was great, and there were no specific instructions. I was told to go out and play my game. The longer I play, the better it is.”

When asked if he was sad about missing his ton, the young keeper said “I don’t regret. It is my first Test series, and I want to win the trophy. It is a dream to play for the country in Test cricket.”

Kuldeep Yadav and Dhruv Jurel joined forces when the Indian team was 176. The duo played amazing cricket and curbed their instincts. The stand for the 8th wicket was worth 77 runs before Anderson got the wicket of Yadav for 28.
