India is currently playing England for a 5-match Test series. The Men in Blue lost the first Test by 28 runs and the 2nd Test began in Visakhapatnam with Rohit Sharma's side winning the toss and electing to bat first with three changes in the side, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja made way for Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and debutant Rajat Patidar. However, Sarfaraz Khan has to wait to make his debut for the national side.
Sarfaraz has been called up after the side for the replacement of injured KL Rahul. The Mumbai-born batter has been in good form in first-class cricket though he has been overlooked every time. The Indian youngster, who is agonisingly making his debut had to wait long as he did not get the call in the playing XI as Patidar has been replacing Rahul in in the XI.
After years of hard work and sacrifice on the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz scored 556 runs in six Ranji Trophy games in 2022/23 and 1910 runs in two seasons of the competition at an average of 136.42. He scored 96, 55 and 161 in three of his last four outings.
This game is all about patience: Sarfaraz Khan
Ahead of his debut, he said in a video uploaded by the Indian Cricket Board, "This game is all about patience. If we have to play Test cricket, we have to be patient. In life, there are times when we rush ourselves. I used to get teary-eyed waiting to get into the team. My father would always say 'Keep working hard and you will be unstoppable'. Having self-belief and patience is very important. I am happy for my father. In a country that boasts such a big population, it is a proud feeling to be a part of this Indian team."
"I was getting ready to play in the Ranji Trophy. I had kept my bags packed. I got a call suddenly that I had been selected. I didn't believe it in the beginning. My father was at our native place, I called him and he turned emotional too. My wife, my mother and my father, they all got emotional."
