Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan has clinched his debut spot in the Indian Test squad for the ongoing series against England. Marking significant recognition for his consistent performance in domestic cricket, he has been added to the squad. The 26-year-old batter seized the opportunity following the unfortunate injuries sidelining Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul for the second Test commencing on February 2 in Vizag.

Despite being a prolific run-scorer in Indian domestic cricket over the past two years, Sarfaraz has faced challenges securing a spot in the national Test squad. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee couldn't ignore his recent impressive performances, notably scores of 55 and a remarkable 161 in the first two unofficial Tests against the England Lions.

In response to the thrilling news of Sarfaraz's maiden Test call-up, his father, Naushad Khan, expressed gratitude to the board and selectors for placing their trust in his son. Naushad conveyed his thanks through a video shared by Sarfaraz's younger brother, Musheer Khan, on Instagram, acknowledging the role of the Mumbai Cricket Association and the National Cricket Academy in nurturing Sarfaraz's talent.

"You all know that Sarfaraz got his maiden test call-up today. I want to thank everyone, especially the Mumbai Cricket Association, where he grew up. Also, the National Cricket Academy, where he got experience, the Board and the selectors for trusting in him, and all his fans who prayed for him and supported him,” said Naushad Khan.

"Hope that he plays well", says Naushad Khan

Reflecting the family's collective aspiration for Sarfaraz's success on the international stage "We all hope that he always plays well for the country and contributes to the team's win," he further added. Sarfaraz Khan boasts an impressive first-class record, having played 45 matches and accumulating 3,912 runs at an outstanding average of 69.85.

His remarkable tally includes 14 centuries and 11 half-centuries, showcasing his consistency and potential as a valuable asset to the Indian team. As India seeks to rebound in the series after trailing against the visitors, Sarfaraz's inclusion adds an element of anticipation and excitement. The batter's journey from domestic cricket success to representing the national Test squad is a testament to his dedication and skill, promising an exciting chapter in his cricketing career.
