Team India is currently hosting England for a 5-match Test series. The Men in Blue bowled out the visitors for 246 runs. They played 'Bazball' but they lost wickets at regular intervals. Ben Stokes was the highest run scorer for his side as the skipper scored 70 runs and got no support from the other end. The trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel picked 8 wickets and two wickets were picked by Jasprit Bumrah.

In reply the home side openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started off aggressively, as they built a partnership of 80 runs for the first wicket. The latter scored more quickly and at the end of Day 1, he is currently unbeaten at 76 runs off 70 balls hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes. He was in serious mood as he smashed the English spinners all-around the park. Witnessing his innings his Indian Premier League (IPL) teammate Ravichandran Ashwin believes it is that Test cricket is like a fish to water for the left-handed opener.

On the first day, Jaiswal and Shubman Gill finished unbeaten, as they trail by 127 runs. Reflecting on Jaiswal's outstanding performance on Day 1, veteran spinner Ashwin compared the India opener to power hitter Rishabh Pant.

He (Jaiswal) had a great time in the IPL: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin said, "He (Jaiswal) had a great time in the IPL, and had a wonderful start in first-class cricket. I am quite enjoying it. I am seeing Rishabh Pant there. His fearless cricket is serving him well. Yashaswi has not put a foot wrong, he has taken to Test cricket like a fish to water."

He further added on his bowling, "It was pretty interesting in the first session, maybe there was a bit of moisture. Because of the early moisture, there was enough speed. Then it slowed down. Not enough speed to carry through to the slips. 240 was a very very good competitive total. Thought 30-40 runs more than what we would have liked. Someone making a hundred tomorrow will put us in the driver's seat."
