5 players who missed out on IPL auction list

5 players who were not shortlisted in the auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is just 6 days away with all the 10 teams geared up for the mini-auction as they have made their strategies with the players they want to add to their squad. From an initial auction pool of 1166 players, 333 players have been shortlisted. Of these, 119 are overseas players, including two from Associate nations The auction will start with capped players, starting with batters, followed by all-rounders, wicketkeepers, fast bowlers, and spinners in the listed order. The same will be followed for the uncapped players as well.

The retention window has already been closed with the trading window closing on 12th December 2023. Mumbai Indians (MI) was the team that took centre stage in the retention window by trading back their star all-rounder Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT), in an all-cash deal of 15 crores INR.

There have been some big names that have not been shortlisted in the final list. The auction, which is being held overseas for the first time, will begin at 2.30 pm IST. In the article, we will be looking at who didn’t make it into the final list of players to go under the hammer.

Here are the 5 players who were not shortlisted in the auction

5. Kedar Jadhav

Kedar Jadhav is one of the big names that have been missing from the final list of the mini-auction. He had registered for the auction with a base price of 2 crore which seemed a bit too high and eventually, even the franchises have not shortlisted him. In the previous edition, he was unsold last year and was commentating in Marathi before Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) picked him up as an injury replacement for David Willey mid-season. This time the batting all-rounder has been excluded from the final list itself.

4. Kane Richardson

Kane Richardson has experience playing 36 T20Is for Australia and the pacer is decent with his records as well. He is a regular member of the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Hundred events. Richardson has played 15 games in the IPL, taking 19 wickets. In the IPL, he has represented the Rajasthan Royals, Pune Warriors, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 32-year-old speedster has not found buyers in the IPL auctions since IPL 2021. He has also not been shortlisted in the final list after keeping a base price of 1.5 crore INR.

3. Tom Banton

Tom Banton is another name on the list that has not been shortlisted. The explosive English opener is a familiar name in franchise cricket and has scored two centuries, and 2779 runs in 122 T20 matches at a strike rate of 143.17. Banton was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but he failed to make an impact for the side. But the toughest franchise league has not shown interest in the players and eventually, he had a base price of 2 crore INR.

2. Angelo Mathews

Angelo Mathews set his base price of 2 crores INR and the franchises believed that the price at the age of the player is baseless. This is the main reason that he is missing from the final list. Previously, poor performance and injuries have meant that his appearances in the IPL have not benefitted the teams he has played for.

1. Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan is the most surprising name that has not been shortlisted in the auction. The destructive white-ball opener of England has been in good form as well. The left-handed opener set his base price at 1.5 crore INR, but nobody showed interest in him leading to his name being omitted from the final list. He was previously picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) where he played one game in IPL 2021. He has 8667 runs in 316 T20s with five centuries and a strike rate of 129.74.
