5 teams who can target Travis Head in IPL 2024 auction

Australia became the champion for the sixth time in the ODI World Cup. Travis Head was one of the most important members of the championship squad. Head missed a few matches of the mega event due to an injury, but since his return to the team, the Kangaroos looked different altogether. The left-handed opener played two match-winning knocks in the semi-final and final. The 29-year-old opener scored a hundred in the final against India to earn the Kangaroos to their sixth World Cup trophy. 

Head has featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) previously for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC). Though the opener could not create any impact he will surely be in a radar for most of the teams. The player seemed to have impressed audiences across all formats of the game. His explosive approach to batting has impressed many franchises and he will fetch big money. The opener has set his base price of 2 crore INR for the mini-auction. 

The IPL auction is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19. This is the first instance that the auction will be held outside India. As per the reports there has been a development, Women’s Premier League (WPL) auctioneer Mallika Sagar, might lead the IPL 2024 auction. The retention window has been closed with the teams having released and retained their players. In the article, we will be looking into the teams that might fight to get Head in their franchise.

5. Delhi Capitals 

Delhi Capitals (DC) will be one of the franchises to bid for Travis Head. DC has already released Sarfaraz Khan and Manish Pandey. Though they have retained Prithvi Shaw his performance will be under survillience for the side. Then they will need someone to partner with David Warner at the top, who can be a better partner than his Australian teammate, as both the batter has done it for the Aussies in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Capitals will also get a good explosive top-order batter. 

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore 

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are still chasing for their first IPL trophy. They have qualified for the final thrice but never got the silverware. The middle-order of RCB is looking quite weak as they do not have any batter who can take the responsibility to bat in No.5. They have Chris Green who can bat in the middle-order but his technique against spin would be a headache for the thinktank. Head's inclusion in the side would increase their batting depth with the southpaw and Faf du Plessis opening and Virat Kohli at three would make them a formidable side. 

3. Punjab Kings 

Punjab Kings (PBKS) would be another side that needs an overseas opener. They have Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh who opens for the franchise. But they are seriously in need of an explosive top-order batter who plays good spin and pace as well. Head will be the obvious choice for the franchise as the Aussie opener is a good player of pace and equally plays aggressive cricket against spin as well. 

2. Kolkata Knight Riders 

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the franchise that had tried many openers but the players failed to perform. They have only retained Jason Roy and wicket-keeper batter Rahmanulah Gurbaz. They might target Head as a backup opener and want to increase the depth as well. The 29-year-old can bowl spin as well and can be handy in the wickets of Eden Gardens. They have a good purse remaining and might go big for the opener. 

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been trying and testing with their overseas players. There are good middle-order overseas batters with the likes of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klassen. But their opening slot has been in question as Mayank Agarwal whose form has been a question for the franchise and Abhishek Sharma his partner just still young. The team will look for an overseas opener who can play fiery knocks up the order, Head will be an obvious choice for the team.
