A total of 1166 players were initially registered, but 333 players have been shortlisted out of which 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas (2 from associate nations). Among the shortlisted, there are a total of 116 capped players from across the world, while the other 117 are overseas. The set has been organised with batters, all-rounders, wicket-keepers and bowlers.

The teams have utilised the retention window with Hardik Pandya making the headlines when he was traded back to Mumbai Indians (MI) from Gujarat Titans (GT) in an all-cash deal of 15 crores INR.

The accelerated auction process explained

The first set consists primarily of capped domestic and overseas players, as well as a few uncapped domestic players. The auction then enters an accelerated phase depending on the number of slots remaining and the remaining purse. The 10 franchises will provide a list of the remaining players, who will then be entered into the auction for the accelerated bidding phase.

Players who were not shortlisted will not be invited to bid. Further, the accelerated auction rounds may be held to bring back players who were previously unsold or to include players who were not shortlisted by the teams in the previous accelerated round.  The players will be placed into eight price brackets and the highest bracket is INR 2 crore. The decision to add another round will be made by the organizers based on the amount of money still available to the teams and the number of open slots.
