Former legendary India captain MS Dhoni's contribution to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is nothing short of legendary. As the team's captain, Dhoni led CSK to multiple Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, creating a legacy of success. Known for his cool and calm nature under pressure, Dhoni's strategic acumen and leadership skills transformed CSK into a powerhouse.

His consistent performances with the bat and astute captaincy have made him synonymous with CSK's identity, etching an indelible mark in the franchise's history. He led the Men in Yellow to 5 IPL titles and is ready to be in action again in IPL 2024. However, today, we’ll be looking at 3 players CSK might target as a backup for Dhoni for the upcoming season.

1. Sam Billings

CSK will likely have their sights set on Sam Billings, the prominent wicketkeeper-batsman from England, who has participated in multiple IPL seasons and represented more than two IPL franchises. Notably, he has previously been associated with CSK and delivered commendable performances.

Despite taking a hiatus from the IPL to concentrate on domestic cricket, aiming for a spot in the national team, Billings is currently not in contention with the England Cricket Board. Consequently, he has enlisted himself for the auction, presenting a valuable backup option for Dhoni.

2. KS Bharat

Young wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat stepped in for the injured Rishabh Pant in India's recent Test series. Notably, he impressed with RCB in IPL 2021. However, his stint with GT in IPL 2022 lacked opportunities. Despite being released, GT faced competition for keeping options.

With 1266 runs in 74 T20 matches, Bharat's low strike rate of 110.85 is a concern. CSK might utilize his quick-scoring and keeping skills at Chepauk, possibly filling Ambati Rayudu's spot in the middle order.

3. Josh Inglis

In the recently concluded 5-match T20I series against India, Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis showcased brilliance with a stunning century in the first T20I. Establishing himself as one of the most destructive batters in the shortest format, CSK, in need of a powerful middle-order batsman, may consider him as a backup for Dhoni.
