The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction has witnessed some remarkable deals. Australian Captain Pat Cummins, with a base price of Rs 2 crore, has made history by being sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a staggering Rs 20.50 crore, becoming the first player ever in IPL history to command such a hefty sum.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured Harshal Patel for a whopping Rs 11.75 crore, while South Africa's Gerald Coetzee found a spot in Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 5 crore, surpassing his base price of Rs 2 crore. New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 1.80 crore, exceeding his base price of Rs 50 lakh.

India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, starting with a base price of Rs 2 crore, was picked up by CSK for Rs 3.20 crore. Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai found a home with Gujarat Titans at a base price of Rs 50 lakh.

Australians have been in high demand

Australian batsman and World Cup hero Travis Head secured a contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 6.8 crore, significantly exceeding his base price of Rs 2 crore. Head played a pivotal role in Australia's World Cup 2023 victory, notably scoring 137 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga joined SRH for Rs 1.5 crore. Rovman Powell, a West Indies batter, was traded from Delhi Capitals to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 7.4 crore, marking a 164 per cent increase from his last price of Rs 2.8 crore. English batsman Harry Brook moved from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Delhi Capitals for Rs 4 crore, experiencing a 70 per cent decrease from his last price of Rs 13.25 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips and Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi in this auction. However, Australian batter Steve Smith and Manish Pandey went unsold, with Smith's base price set at Rs 2 crore and Pandey at Rs 50 lakh.
