SWOT analysis of MI

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction had a grand end as this was the first instance that there was a live audience in the Coca-Cola arena and this was the first time that the auction was held outside the country. Mumbai Indians (MI) have been one most successful teams in the toughest T20 league in the world. They have won the trophy five times. There has been rage in the side after they removed their most successful captain Rohit Sharma from the leadership roles.

Hardik Pandya has been named as the new captain for the side, he made the headlines during the retention window when he was traded back from Gujarat Titans (GT) in an all-cash deal of 15 crore INR. He came back to the side where he started his IPL career only with the condition that he would lead the side.

During the auction, they made some steal buys and picked some of the big names in the auction at very cheap prices and made their side look more formidable than before. In the article, we will be doing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), analysis of the team ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

SWOT analysis of Mumbai Indians

Strength

MIs biggest strength is their batting department. Their all-Indian batting line-up with the likes, of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, and with the inclusion of Hardik Pandya they are looking more formidable and they have the firepower of Tim David towards the end of the innings will give them immense strength, Nehal Wadhera adds also some finishing touch.

Another strength is their pace bowling department, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Jason Behrendoff, Gerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madushanka they have made a solid-looking pace attack. With the pace and bounce in the Wankhede Stadium with the new ball they are looking very dangerous and the opposition batters will have a tough time in the crease.

Weakness

They are looking weak in the department of spin. They have only one experienced and proven spinner Piyush Chawal, who was retained by the franchise before the mini-auction of the upcoming season. A lack of proper spinners might be a problem for the side in the tournament. They have added, the service of Shreyas Gopal and he might solve some problems but in the pitches of Chennai and Hyderabad, they might have required an experienced and seasoned spinner.

Opportunities

They have added some young names to the side with the likes of Dewald Brevis, and Vishnu Vinod, there are a lot of potential stars in the squad who could be the strong pillars for the side in the future. The young guns would love to show their talent in the IPL 2024 and make a name whenever they get an opportunity. Coetzee's inclusion in the side has been a boost as the 23-year-old Protea pacer is eager to make his debut for the champions side.

Threats

Though Hardik has been named captain of the side the management needs to keep up on good terms with the senior members of the team with Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah as both of them were unhappy with the 30-year-old being named as the captain and with him being a little injury prone there might be threats for the side in the long league.
