We all are aware of the fact that how intense is the game of cricket and how intensely these players play when performing on the biggest stage. Indian T20 League is considered to be one of the biggest platforms for any player- be it domestic or international. It renders a set platform for these players to gain prominence.
In the pursuit of being the winning the game, things tend to heat up sometimes between the players which eventually brews up into a scuffle. From verbal spats to wild actions, the tournament has seen every kind of fierce fight on the field.
Here are the Top three fights in the Indian T20 League:
3. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli
It rather came as a surprise when the 2 Indian superstars hailing from the same city- Delhi, were caught in an ugly fight in the 2013 edition.
It was during Bengaluru’s chase when Kolkata sent Virat Kohli back to the pavilion. Kolkata were exulted after removing the Bengaluru Franchise skipper and Virat could not swallow that down his throat. While walking back to the dressing room, Virat had few words to spew at the bowler which was totally unacceptable to the Kolkata skipper- Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir then reached out to Kohli to return the favors and what should have been a regular dismissal turned out to be one of the biggest tussles between the players. It was then another Delhi player, Rajat Bhatia, who separated the two boiling players and calmed down the things.
2. Mitchell Starc and Kieron Pollard:
No one would want to be on the receiving end when the Big Dog, Kieron Pollard is in the middle but that didn’t bother the fierce pacer, Mitchell Starc, who went head to head against Pollard in an ugly fight.
It all happened when Starc was steaming in and Pollard, at the very last moment, decided not to play the delivery and stepped aside. It is never a pleasing sight to a fast bowler when a batsman walks over at the very last moment of the bowler’s delivery stride who is running in from some distance.
In all frustration and anger, Starc went on with his delivery and angled it in just past Pollard to the keeper. In an impulsive reaction, Pollard threw his bat in Starc’s direction but luckily it fell only in front of him. A few balls later, Pollard was then run-out by Starc and Pollard didn’t even bother to run toward him to save his wicket.
1. S Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh:
The incident took place in the inaugural season of the Indian T20 League in 2008 when two of India’s most aggressive players were involved in an altercation. It happened when Punjab triumphed over Mumbai and Sreesanth, who was then a part of the Punjab franchise, was observed poking Harbhajan Singh, who was a member of the Mumbai continent.
The latter in all frustration and embarrassment of the defeat lost his control and lashed out at Sreesanth and slapped him on his face. This might probably be one and the last incident when any physical encounter happened on the field of cricket in the cash-rich league. Although the footage of Harbhajan slapping Sreesanth was completely kept obscured but Sreesanth was seen on the big screen with an outpour of tears.
