The Australian batters have dominated the batting charts in the most recent World Test rankings after winning the final match of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023. Australia became the first team in the world to hold every major world trophy after defeating India by 209 runs. After Travis Head and Steve Smith's performance with the bat earned the former Player of the Match award, the pair now joined a rare trio that has broken a Test cricket record that has stood for 39 years.
Following the most recent update, Australia took the top three slots in the World rankings, with Head moving up to No. 3 thanks to his outstanding hundred against India in the WTC Final. Currently, Marnus Labuschagne and Smith are rated No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the rankings. Marnus Labuschagne was ranked as the top Test batter before last Wednesday's game, with Steve Smith and Travis Head occupying the third and sixth rankings.
However, Smith has edged Kane Williamson to win the second spot after those thunderous tonnes in the Test final, while Head has advanced three spots to reach the third spot. Smith managed to move up one spot, giving him 885 points overall. With 903 rating points, Labuschagne maintained his lead at the top of the rankings.
Rishabh Pant is the only Indian in the Top 10 Test batters rankings
Australia’s left-handed opener, Usman Khawaja, who struggled against India at the Oval, has dropped two spots and is currently in ninth place. The lone Indian in the top 10 rankings is Rishabh Pant, who is presently recovering from injuries he incurred in a vehicle accident.
But no positions were gained for India in the Test rankings, however, despite being rested in the WTC final, Ravichandran Ashwin remained the top Test bowler in the world. With losses of 10 and 5 rating points, respectively, to show 729 and 700 as their most recent ratings, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli maintain their positions of 12th and 13th, respectively.
