Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who has the knack of remaining in the headlines due to his controversial statements, recently, claimed that he turned down an offer of INR 1.76 cr from the English county Nottinghamshire to take part in the 1999 Kargil War. The Kargil war was fought at an altitude of 16,000 feet in which 1,042 Pakistani soldiers and 527 Indian soldiers were martyred.

The relationship between India and Pakistan became very bad as both of them stopped playing against each other in the bilateral series. Both teams now only clash in major world tournaments. Meanwhile an old video has resurfaced on social media in which Shoaib Akhtar revealed that he turned down crores of money to sacrifice for his country.

“People hardly know about this story. I had an INR 1.7 cr contract with Nottingham. Then in 2002, I had another big contract. I left both when Kargil happened,” Akhtar said in an interview with Pakistan’s ARY News.

“I stood on the outskirts of Lahore. A general asked me what I’m doing there. I said war is about to start and we’ll die together. I left the county (cricket) twice like this and the counties were shocked. I wasn’t concerned about that. I called up my friends in Kashmir and told them I am ready to fight,” he added

India beat Pakistan in the last they played

Meanwhile, both teams are set to clash in the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be hosted by Pakistan. However, it is reported that the matches of the Indian team will be played at neutral venues as the Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jai Shah refused to send the Indian players to Pakistan due to security reasons.

Pakistan Cricket Board also fired back at India, claiming that the Pakistan players will not be traveling to India for the upcoming 2023 World Cup which is set to host in India. India and Pakistan last locked horns with each other in the 2022 20-20 World Cup, where the fans witnessed a classy knock from Virat Kohli.
