The top T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav is yet to make a mark in the ODI format for the national side. He got out cheaply in the first ODI against West Indies on July 27, Thursday, making just 19 runs off 25 balls. It led the former India opener Aakash Chopra on the commentary booth with JioCinema, to point out that the 32-year-old has lost his opportunity to make a big impression on the selectors in the lead-up to the home ODI World Cup.

The Mumbai Indians batter was coming back after his consecutive three golden ducks in the ODI series against Australia at home. The lack of form in ODI cricket has been a worry for the batter, he will definitely score big in order to keep his place in the ODI team.

He will have to score runs: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra highlighted that the Mumbai-based batter has wasted away another chance to secure his place in India's World Cup squad, "Then came Suryakumar Yadav - that's another question. This was an opportunity for him. I had kept Suryakumar Yadav in my World Cup team but for that, he will have to score runs."

The former opener was especially dissatisfied with the unusual batter's approach, which resulted in his dismissal, "He was sent to bat at No. 3 so that he goes and collects runs, and his name continues to remain in the audition."

He further added, "He was batting decently, but the way he got out - he first hit a sweep which went for a four, another sweep and got beaten, another sweep and a leg-before appeal, and then another sweep and got out leg-before. These were four consecutive balls and not four separate events."

The 32-year-old batter, who has played 24 ODIs so far, has scored only 2 fifties. Also, his batting average is just 23.79, having scored only 452 runs. Before the first match, former India player Akash Chopra talked about the batter's approach in ODIs like T20Is.

Team India were clinical with the ball against the hosts earlier in the day, knocking them for 114 runs after skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, the spin twins, created mayhem on West Indies' batting order, taking four and three wickets, respectively.
