The Asian Cricket Council announced on Thursday that the dates for the 2023 Asia Cup are August 31 through September 17. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will compete in the event, which will consist of a total of 13 one-day international matches amongst the nations.

The long dispute which was going on between the Indian Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board has finally come to an end. According to the announcement from the ACC, the event will be staged in a hybrid format, with Pakistan hosting four matches and Sri Lanka hosting the remaining nine.

“The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka. The 2023 Edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final,” the Asian Cricket Council said in a statement.

India is the most successful team in Asia Cups

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal will all take part in the ODI-style Asia Cup this time around. The first group includes Pakistan, India, and Nepal. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will continue to be in the second group.

From each of the groups, two teams will advance to the Super 4. The Super-4 will then be contested in a round-robin format over the course of a total of 6 games. Two teams will then advance to the final and compete for the championship. The Asia Cup 2023 will include a total of 13 games, including the championship game.

The Indian team has consistently won the Asia Cup as they have won the Asia Cup championship 7 times, which is the highest number during the tournament's 15 seasons to date (1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995, 2010, 2016, and 2018). Sri Lanka, which is ranked second, has won the championship six times (1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014, and 2022). Only twice (in 2000 and 2012) could Pakistan claim the title.
