Indian middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav's poor run in the One Day International (ODI) format continued as he registered back-to-back golden ducks in the ongoing series against Australia. In the second ODI played in Visakhapatnam, Suryakumar was dismissed for a golden duck by Mitchell Starc. It was the second consecutive duck for the 32-year-old, who had also fallen to Starc in the first ODI played in Mumbai.
Suryakumar's dismissal in the second ODI was a result of his poor shot selection as he tried to drive the ball across the line but missed the ball completely. The ball struck him plumb in front of the middle-and-leg stump, giving the umpire an easy decision to make. In the first ODI, Starc had dismissed him with a delivery that pitched on a length and straightened to him, clipping the top of the off-stump line.
Suryakumar has been in scintillating form in the Indian T20 League and has been one of the most consistent performers in the T20 format. However, his performances in the ODI format have been underwhelming, with just two fifty-plus scores in 20 innings. He has scored 433 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 25.47, which is not up to the mark for a batsman of his caliber.
The back-to-back ducks will raise concerns over Suryakumar's form and his ability to perform at the international level in the longer format of the game. He will need to work on his shot selection and technique to overcome the challenges posed by the opposition bowlers.
Overall, Suryakumar Yadav's back-to-back golden ducks in the ongoing ODI series against Australia will be a cause for concern for the Indian team management. The 32-year-old will need to work on his game and make the necessary adjustments to perform well in the longer format of the game.
SKY's poor run of form soon brought out cricket fans on social media who criticised the player and asked for him to be removed from the playing XI.
