India opener Shubman Gill is all set to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup. He was recently spotted at the CEAT award show where he have been honoured with the CEAT ODI Batter of the Year award. Gill had a sensational 2022-23 year in ODIs, scoring 750 runs in 12 matches in 2023. He scored three centuries and two half-centuries, and 638 runs in 12 innings in 2022.
Despite his poor show in West Indies Team India coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have backed him as the first-choice opener for India. In the award ceremony, he also bagged the International Cricketer of the Year award.

At the event, Gill mentioned Sharma and Rahul Dravid, and how they have backed him. He stated, "Our captain & coach gave me the opportunity & backed me even after Ishan scored a double ton, I was fortunate." He also mentioned the 'God of Cricket' Sachin Tendulkar in the ceremony.Β He said, "Sachin Tendulkar was my inspiration when I started playing cricket."
He also mentioned Virat Kohli, on being asked which superhero suits Kohli, Gill replied saying, "Hulk, he's that Hulk energy." Gill has scored 1352 runs in 26 innings in ODIs so far in his career at an outstanding average of 61 with the help of 4 centuries, one of which was a double hundred against New Zealand, and five fifties to go with.
Suryakumar Yadav won the CEAT T20I Batter of the Year award. He concluded 2022 as the highest run-getter, scoring 1164 runs at a strike rate of 187.43, averaging 46.56. His tally of 68 sixes in 2022 is the highest anyone has hit in the format in a year. With two hundred and nine half-centuries in the year, SKY was undoubtedly the standout men's T20I batter, achieving a career-high 890 rating points to be the top-ranked T20I batter in 2022. In 2023, Yadav has scored 433 runs in 10 innings so far and is on track for another great year.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the Test Cricketer of the Year award. Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the T20 Bowler of the Year, Brendon McCullum won the CEAT Innovated Coach of the Year award, and Deepti Sharma CEAT Women's Cricketer of the Year.
