Australia batter Travis Head might be ruled out of the 2023 World Cup. He has suffered a fracture in his left hand after getting hit by a vicious short ball from Gerald Coetzee in the fourth ODI. The left-handed batter is a new addition to the injured list of the Australian cricketers.

The list of injuries has some big names in it. With the likes of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxell, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, and now Head has also been added to that squad. The World Cup is around the corner Cricket Australia will be in difficulty if all these players are not fully fit before the mega event.

At this stage, it's a confirmed fracture: Andrew McDonald

McDonald said after the conclusion of the fourth ODI,  "At this stage, it's a confirmed fracture and how long that timeframe is, we're yet to determine that so fingers crossed clearly with the World Cup fast approaching. I'm not a medical person, but I think it's a little bit higher up than the actual finger itself. But I don't know the actual terminology. It's in a joint somewhere so I won't go into the medical specifics. But, yeah, a confirmed fracture and to be assessed again tomorrow with another scan."

Head has been Australia's best all-format batter in the past one and a half-years. The batter has backfooted the opposition on the home soil. He was the main reason behind Australia's first-ever World Test Championship Final win against India. Scans on Saturday are expected to reveal the seriousness of the fracture but with just over three weeks until Australia's ODI World Cup opener against India in Chennai. Head's involvement in the World Cup squad is now a question.

In the fourth ODI batting first the hosts scored a mammoth total of 416 runs for 5. With Heinrich Klassen scoring a blistering knock of 174 runs off 83 balls. His inning comprised 13 sixes and 13 fours. The 32-year-old batter now owns the third-highest ODI score by a SA batter against the Aussies. In response, Australia were bowled out for just 252 runs.
