The action returned in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The two teams are struggling at the bottom of the table this season. Hence, the two points at stake in the game are vital for both sides. That certainly promises a passionate encounter between the two.

Talking of how things unfolded at Hyderabad, the Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first on a tricky surface. The visitors posted a competitive 171/9 in 20 overs. Rinku Singh, who now has a cult-hero status among KKR fans, scored in this one with 46 off 35. Skipper Nitish Rana followed him closely with 42 off 31. Finally, Andre Russell’s quickfire 24 off 15 boosted the team total to 171.

For the Sunrisers, T Natarajan and Marco Jansen returned with two wickets each. At the same time, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kartik Tyagi, Mayank Markande and skipper Aiden Markram returned with one wicket apiece, ensuring every SRH bowler had a successful outing.

In reply, the home team went off to a shaky start losing four of their batter for a score of 54. However, following impact player Rahul Tripathi’s dismissal after scoring a quickfire 20 off 9 balls, skipper Aiden Markram (41 off 40) and Heinrich Klaasen (36 off 20) stitched a 70-run partnership taking SRH to 124/5. Abdul Samad, with 21 off 18, led the final push for the Sunrisers but could not take them over the finish line as KKR won by 5 runs. For KKR, Vaibhav Arora and Shradul Thakur returned with two wickets each.

Next, in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, the Rajasthan Royals will host the defending champions, Gujarat Titans. While the Titans are coming into this game on the backdrop of a shock defeat at the hands of the Delhi Capitals, the Royals would be looking to shake off the loss they suffered against the Mumbai Indians despite scoring 212 runs.
