Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell didn’t have a great season with the bat in IPL 2023 so far. The 34-year-old once again got out cheaply in the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore after scoring just 1 runs off 2 balls.

Russell came out to bat after KKR’s skipper Nitish Rana got out in the second ball of the 18th over. In the next over, pacer Mohammed Siraj thrashed his stumps with a sensational yorker to give RCB a fifth breakthrough.

Russell has been in horrific form this season as he scored 108 runs in eight games played so far in IPL 2023 at an average of 21.40 at a strike rate of 140.79. It is a massive decline from his overall career strike rate of 175.57. His high score this season remains 38 off 31 balls against Delhi Capitals.

Talking about his bowling, Russell bowled only five overs this season due to fitness concerns. He also didn’t have a great time as a bowler as he conceded runs at an economy of 13.16 runs per over in IPL 2023.

Despite Russel’s early dismissal in the last match, KKR registered a convincing victory over RCB by 21 runs in match number 36 of the season at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

KKR registered a convincing win over RCB

Batting first, KKR posted a total of 200 for the loss of 5 wickets, powered by the half-century by the opener Jason Roy who got out after scoring 56 runs off 29 balls hitting four fours and five sixes. After that, skipper Nitish Rana played a quickfire knock of 48 runs off just 21 balls with three fours and four sixes. While Rinku Singh and David Weise added the finishing touches to the innings as KKR touched 200 runs.

Chasing the winning total, RCB stand-in skipper Virat Kohli kept taking the innings forward with wickets falling regularly from the other. He also got the support of Mahipal Lamror as they both added put up a partnership of 55 runs for the fourth wicket. Lamror got out in the 12th over after scoring 34 off 18 with one four and three sixes. While Kolhi also lost his wicket in the next over after a well-made 54 runs off 37 balls hitting six boundaries. After that, RCB continued to lose wickets again at regular intervals and could reach 179 runs losing 8 wickets.
