Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is known for his controversial statements on many cricketers like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. He has, once again, grabbed headlines for similar reasons. Gambhir made a scathing statement and compared former South African legend AB de Villiers with Suresh Raina.

Gambhir said that Raina was better than de Villiers in the Indian T20 League, highlighting the fact that Raina has won 4 cash-rich league trophies, while de Villiers holds only personal records. He made the statement while talking in a show in Star Sports.

"AB de Villiers only had personal records in the Indian T20 League. Anybody could have scored runs in Chinnaswamy stadium,"

However, many fans didn’t like his statement and brutally trolled him on social media. Although, there were many who opined that Gambhir is right. Ab de Villiers has scored 5162 runs in 184 matches at an average of 39.7, which included 3 centuries and 40 half-centuries although it wasn’t enough to win the title even once.

Gautam Gambhir will coach Lucknow again in Indian T20 League 2023

Talking about Raina, he has retired from Indian T20 League 2023. The left-hander has a total of 5528 runs in 205 matches at an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.76. Raina has scored 1 century and a total of 39 half-centuries in the world's toughest league.

Meanwhile, Gambhir will be seen coaching the Lucknow-based franchise in the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian T20 League. The KL Rahul-led team were able to qualify in the previous season but got eliminated by Bangalore. However, this time, they have added some new faces in the team which can be very useful for the team.

Former West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran was sold to Lucknow in the mini auction at a whopping price of INR 16 crores. His ability to hit huge sixes will make the team’s middle order stronger than ever.

Here’s how fans reacted on Gambhir’s statement:
