Pakistan have used a concussion substitute for the first time in Test cricket, after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Mohammad Rizwan have replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed for the remainder of the second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, at Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.

According to the PCB, match referee David Boon granted the team management's substitution request. In the afternoon session of day three, Asitha Fernando smacked Sarfaraz in the head when he was ducking a bouncer. He hit 22 odd runs before getting injured and was forced to retire.

A video of Mohammad Rizwan has gone viral who was in the dugout without the shoes, went in running in the pavilion to get padded up and come out and bat instead of Sarfaraz. He was very excited like a child and smiled while going inside the dressing room, as if he was waiting like a child to get a chance to play.

According to the board, the PCB's medical panel is still watching him. If a player gets a concussion as a consequence of a head or neck injury during a match, the Cricket Governing Body may allow a Concussion Replacement.

However, the head or neck injury must have happened during play and within the playing area, and the concussion must have been correctly evaluated by the team.  They stated, "Sarfaraz was hit on his head while ducking a bouncer by Asitha Fernando in the afternoon session on day three. He remains under the observation of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical panel."

If the circumstances conditions are satisfied, the medical representative or team management must submit a Concussion Replacement request to the Match Referee. The intended Concussion Replacement should be a match-up for the concussed player. To be accepted, the Concussion Replacement Request must be submitted within 36 hours after the incidence.

Pakistan are 477 for 5, with the courtesy of Abdullah Shafique's double century, he has been dismissed on 201 runs off 326 balls by Prabath Jayasuriya.
