The 39th match of the Indian Premier League was played between the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, April 29.  KKR were handed another defeat, who were taking one step forward but has now taken two steps back.

Talking about the match, GT won the toss and opted to bowl first. KKR started well with N Jagadeesan looking aggressive but lost wickets, shortly. KKR kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Gurbaz was smacking the ball to all parts at the other end. He held the innings together with a sparkling 39-ball 81, which included 5 fours and 7 sixes.

Andre Russell also played a handy knock of 19-ball 34, but the Titans came back at the death, conceding just 45 runs off the last 5 overs, with Joshua Little, Noor Ahmed, and Mohammed Shami being very impressive. However, surprisingly, Rashid Khan was too expensive as he conceded 54 runs in his 4 overs quota and didn’t pick up a single wicket.

In response, GT also had a great start as their opeber Shubman Gill was smashing boundaries and utilising the powerplay optimally. However, they lost Wriddhiman Saha on 10 runs but skipper Hardik Pandya joined hands with Gill and both stitched a superb 50-run partnership.

Gill played as the aggressor in the powerplay, picking out gaps and scoring freely against the pacers. It looked like these two might just finish the game off at one stage, but KKR responded with two quick wickets as Pandya and Gill were out on successive overs.

However, later Vijay Shankar and David Miller took some time to settle in but the former then changed his gears. Miller also started the carnage to take down Suyash Sharma, who had bowled beautifully till that point. In the end, GT chased down the target with more than two overs to spare.
