Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has made a bold prediction over this year's leading run-scorer for World Cup 2023. He believes that England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler will be the leading run-getter in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

Buttler has prior experience playing in India in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR). According to Kallis, with the kind of batting talent that he possesses, the aggressive cricketer should fancy Indian conditions. He is a good player of spin and pace as well. Against Pace he has an average of 42.1 and a Strike Rate of 164.4 but against Spin his Average is 40.9 & Strike Rate is 134. There may not be much difference in average but his Strike Rate against spin is quite low when compared against pace.

I think Jos Buttler will be the leading run-scorer: Jacques Kallis

In a video on Cricket Governing Body's Instagram handle, Kallis was asked to predict the leading run-getter at the 2023 World Cup. He stated, "I think Jos Buttler will be the leading run-scorer. Outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions along with England having a good World Cup. I think he’s going to be the one guy that stands out."

The England skipper has played in 165 ODIs so far, scoring 4647 runs at an average of 41.49, with 11 hundreds and 24 fifties. He, however, possesses a poor one-day record in India. In eight matches, he has scored 83 runs at an average of 11.85, with a best of 31. In the ODI World Cup, he has played 17 matches, scoring 453 runs at an average of 34.84, with one hundred.

Looking at the numbers, it's quite clear that he has improved himself against spinners. In 2018 his average was just 40 with a Strike Rate of 137, which has significantly increased to 66.5 and 147.8 respectively.

Previously former England captain Eoin Morgan praised the 32-year-old batter. He stated the keeper-batter is one of the best white ball players to have ever played the game and a brilliant leader as well.
