Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) earned their first victory of the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKN) by six wickets in the 12th Match, at Basseterre, on August 27. They finished last in 2022, and have again looked like a strong team on paper.

TKR came back with this spectacular win to move to fourth on the points table. They will take on last year's finalists, Barbados Royals, in their next fixture on Wednesday, August 30. Nicholas Pooran's blistering knock helped them to win their first match.

TKR won the toss and elected to field first. Putting into bat first SKN openers Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis got their side off to a quick start scoring 43 runs in the first four overs, before eventually falling to Dwayne Bravo, who was playing his 100th CPL game.

Veteran spinner Sunil Narine took the wickets of Joshua da Silva and Jyd Goolie to leave the Patriots struggling. But a sensational 66-run partnership between stand-in captain Sherfane Rutherford and Corbin Bosch helped SKN to score 178-5.

In reply, the Knight Riders lost early wickets of their openers Chadwick Walton and Martin Guptill early on in the innings. But Nicholas Pooran held on to the innings brilliantly as their score was 50-2 at the end of six overs. He then continued to score boundaries after the powerplay but was eventually caught out for 61 from 32 balls.

Skipper Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell took charge at the end, with the latter scoring 37 runs off 16 balls. He would score four sixes to put his side firmly in control, and he would eventually finish the game in style hitting a six off a Dominics Drake delivery in the 17th over.

The CPL has instituted a unique red-card rule to overcome the increasingly slow over rates. They had to play the final over with just 10 players on the field. Sunil Narine was the player who was withdrawn from the field of play.
