Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) beat Barbados Royals (BR) by 133 runs in the 13th Match of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at Kensington Oval Barbados. Martin Guptill gave a reminder of his class with an unbeaten century of just 58 balls, with the courtesy of his century they set up a total of 194/5.

They showed a dominant display with both bat and ball. With this win, TKR now are positioned 3rd in the points table. They had a cautious start to their innings, with Martin Guptill at one point 20 runs from 20 balls. In reply Barbados Royals would be bowled out for 61 runs.

Martin Guptill leads TKR to a massive win

Putting into bat first TKR had a cautious start to their innings. With Martin Guptill scoring 50 runs in just 40 balls. They lost the wickets of Mark Deyal and Nicholas Pooran in early. The shift of the match changed when skipper Kieron Pollard came into bat. The Blackcaps opener took just 18 deliveries to score his next 50 runs, hitting 9 sixes and one four.

The knock ended a string of low scores for Guptill, who had not passed 20 in a T20 since March this year when he made 37 for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. It was the first century of the CPL season, that helped the Knight Riders to set an imposing total of 194 runs in their 20 overs.

In reply the Royals never looked to be in control of the game, as both openers, Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers were dismissed in the opening over by Andre Russell. Shortly afterwards Alick Athanaze and Laurie Evans would also lose their wickets to leave the Royals reeling at 20/4 in the 5th over. After their skipper, Rovman Powell would lose his wicket with the first ball after the powerplay, with wickets then falling at regular intervals, the Barbados Royals would be bowled out for 61.

The Royals will be back in action tomorrow night as they face off against defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs at the Kensington Oval.
