After a long wait of 1426 days, the Chennai-based franchise is playing their Indian T20 League match in Chepauk, and there was tremendous enthusiasm among the home crowd. The Chennai batters also did not disappoint and smashed boundaries around every corner of the ground fiercely. The opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 110 runs for the first wicket.

Meanwhile, former legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni displayed a powerful batting performance as he smashed back-to-back sixes against the Lucknow speedster Mark Wood. With those two sixes, Dhoni also reached to 5000 runs in the Indian T20 League.

He came to bat in the final over and opened his account with a maximum. Wood came up with a quick bouncer on the next ball but the 41-year-old smashed it to the leg side for another six. However, he tried to send the ball out of the park in the next delivery but got caught.

Meanwhile, coming back to Chennai innings, after the brilliant start given by Gaikwad and Conway, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dubey, and Ambati Rayudu also played some great shots and contributed to the scoreboard. However, the fans were waiting for 'Thala' aka Dhoni to bat and it ended after the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja in the second last over. Dhoni also did not disappoint the fans and as soon as he came, he made the fans happy by playing two tremendous shots.

It does mean a lot to be back here: MS Dhoni

Earlier, during the toss, Dhoni talked about the excitement of playing on their home ground after a long time and said that they are really glad to play their all home games at Chepauk and it means a lot to them as they have played only a few seasons on their home ground.

"It does mean a lot to be back here. Indian T20 League started in 2008 but we've not played a lot of cricket here. Only about 5-6 seasons we've been here. This is the first time the full stadium will be operational; a few stands were empty earlier. Really glad that we get to play all our home games here at Chepauk, means a lot," Dhoni said at the toss as the Chennai crowd came unglued.
