Mumbai's star batter Prithvi Shaw has been one of the biggest future stars of Indian Cricket. Since his debut in 2018, he has been looked at as a potential superstar who can fill the shoes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar in the future.
However, after five years since his debut, the 24-year-old batter is struggling to make a comeback in the national team and has been under the radar for his poor performance. In the latest reality check, former India opener Virender Sehwag asked him to learn from his fellow players.
In a cricket show, Sehwag asked Shaw to work on his techniques and look up and learn from players like Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Sehwag also said that Shaw makes repetitive mistakes and doesn’t learn from them. He also said that Shaw’s competitors have moved far ahead in the race and it's high time for him to learn from his mistakes.
Speaking at Cricbuzz, Sehwag said,
“He has been dismissed playing those kinds of shots so many times...but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs, and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in ITL. He has to make the most of this ITL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600-odd runs in an ITL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his ITL scores.”
Will Prithvi Shaw make it for World Cup?
India who, recently, faced a humiliating defeat in the ODIs against Australia, will be looking to make a comeback and prepare well for the tournament. Before the World Cup in October or November, the team will play Asia Cup in a 50-over format. Prithvi Shaw will hope to perform well and replace either Ishan Kishan or Shubhman Gill from the team.
On the other hand, Gill, who has been phenomenal this year, will look to fix his place in the playing eleven of the World Cup. Kishan, who is a backup wicketkeeper and opener, also needs to perform to save his place in the team. Meanwhile, here's how fans have reacted to Virender Sehwag’s suggestion to Prithvi Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw has got one thing right here that is hair style of Sehwag now he just need to replicate his batting performance and he is sorted ❤️

it all starts and ends with fitness, while Gill and Gaikwad both look as fit as ever and brilliant in the field, can't be said the same about Shaw who remains a liability in the field, can't be deployed as a boundary rider, or even at slips, and extremely slow between the wickets

Gill got a long run even after so many failures. Whereas Shaw was made the scapegoat after that Adelaide defeat.

There's a dynamic change too. People went from calling Shaw the next Sachin Tendulkar to Gill being that person.

Yes. Very true . There is no improvement at all. Gap between bat and pad - bowled or short ball - caught at mid on or mid off.

Shaw is a much better player than Gill n Rutu.
